In near perfect conditions last Monday night, North Down AC returned to the paths and trails of the Clandeboye estate, with options at 4K and 8k for a scenic tour of the historic surrounds.

In the shorter distance, it was the ever improving Ryan Lynas who took the honours for first across the line, followed by Jamie Gaw in the fastest net time of 14:55, with Lucy Cheatley completing the podium in a net time of 16:40.

Neil O’Driscoll coasted to victory in the 8k race, with a net time of 33:49, whilst Mark Weir claimed 2nd, in the fastest net of 30:09, and Robert Eadie just managed to hold off Mark Carberry to finish 3rd across the line.

Sunday evening provided further opportunities for Clandeboye Estate exploration, this time over 10k’s worth of trails, as organised by the good people from FEARR NI.

Clair Quigley was in fine form again, 44:42 good enough to claim the title of first lady, 7th overall out of the field of 119. Pamela Phillips followed not long afterwards, just missing out on the ladies podium, but with a highly creditable 19th overall in 48:49, whilst Peter McQuillan continues to thrive over mixed terrain and placed 35th in 51:35.

 European Masters Athletics – Venice

The Italian seaside resort of Lido di Jesolo played host to the European Masters half marathon road race on Sunday, with North Down represented by Roberta Dornan and Helen Byers, in the colours of Great Britain & NI.

In conditions more akin to lounging by the pool than pounding the streets, the Bangor ladies performed admirably to finish 19th and 20th in their age category, with Roberta clocking 1:39:59 and Helen 1:40:25
