Paul Pollock and Emma Mitchell take top honours at 32nd annual Greencastle 5!


Greencastle 5 mile Road Race 2017:

On Tuesday 26th December 2017 (Boxing Day), well over one thousand participants turned out for the 32nd annual Greencastle 5 mile road race in County Tyrone.

At the head of the field, Olympian Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders) secured his fourth consecutive win in the men’s race, while the in-form Emma Mitchell (QUB AC) celebrated victory in the ladies event.

Paul put in a strong performance to claim top honours, leaving a strong field behind as he clocked 24:31 for 1st place.  Newly crowned NI & Ulster 10k road Champion Scott Rankin (Foyle Valley AC) followed in 25:30 for 2nd place, while current 10,000m track Champion Eoghan Totten completed the top three twenty seconds later in 25:50 (3rd place).

After the race, Paul posted on social media:  “Another excellent day @greencastle5. No course record this year but great clock 4 in a row!Fantastic organising and atmosphere!”

In the ladies race, Commonwealth Games bound Emma Mitchell saw off Irish Olympian Catriona Jennings (Letterkenny AC) for the win.  Emma broke the tape first in 28:28 (1st place), with Catriona recording 28:57 for 2nd place.  Edinburgh AC’s Lauren Wilson crossed the line in 29:59 for 3rd place.
