The Pioneer Group, organisers of ‘The Decathlon Belfast 10k and Half Marathon’ have confirmed that this years event will take place on Sunday 7th April 2013 and will be held over one of the fastest and flatest courses in Northern Ireland.
Last years race produced personal bests for many of the runners and the same course should produce similar results this year. The race offers a perfect opportunity for those racing in the Belfast Marathon to get a good safe and fast race under their belts.
Start Time: Both races will start at 9am. Registration will be open from 7.30am and will take place in the Decathlon store when numbers and chips will be given out. The races are on open roads but traditionally there is very little traffic at the time of the races. The route for both races is flat and fast.
Courses: Both courses will be the same as last years race. Start at the Decathlon Store, follow route along Westbank Rd, left into Heron Rd, left at bottom of Heron Rd into Airport Rd West, dead turn close to Bombardier and then back up Airport Rd West onto Westbank Rd and finish in the Decathlon Carpark. The Half Marathon route will incorporate a short dog leg towards the IKEA store where there will be a dead turn and the route will then follow the 10k route finishing in the Decathlon carpark.
All entrants will receive an event specific Decathlon Kalenji Technical T shirt and a quality Decathlon Goodie Bag. Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to 1/2/3 in both the 10k and Half Marathon. Age Group prizes will also be awarded for male and females in categories as follows; Junior [under 18], 35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-64,65-69,70+ Prizes will be awarded in the Half Marathon Relay for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Male Relay Team, Female Relay Team and Mixed Team. Chip Timing will be in use for both races.
Toilets will be available at the venue and tea/coffee/snacks can be purchased from a vendor. Free post-race massage will be available. Car Parking is available close to the start / finish area.
