World University Games 2017:
On Wednesday 23rd August 2017, Northern Ireland based athlete Emma Mitchell (QUB AC) secured a 9th place finish in the World University Games 10,000 metres in Taipei (Taiwan).
In tough humid conditions, Emma recorded 34:51.62, in what was only her second ever time competing over this distance on the track. Daria Maslova (Kyrgyzstan) won in 33:19.27 (1st place).
Emma told BBC Sport NI, “I am pleased to perform ok in my first major competition. The humidity was a killer and I had to take water every two laps. I didn’t get distressed but the conditions obviously slowed my pace”.
Emma is now likely to take to the start line of the 5,000 metres, which takes place on Sunday (27th August 2017).
