Rio Olympian Breege Connolly wins EMF Edinburgh Half Marathon 2018!

Spartan athlete Breege Connolly wins in Scotland:

City of Derry AC Spartan Breege Connolly excelled as hundreds of local runners took part in the EMF Edinburgh Marathon Festival in Scotland this weekend (Saturday 26th – Sunday 27th May 2018).

The European Championships bound marathoner took control of the ladies race in the half marathon after 12 miles, surging to victory in 1:16:07 (1st place), a new personal best by 12 seconds.

Early leader Annabel Simpson (Fife AC), who was twelve seconds ahead of Breege at the half way mark, followed in 1:16:28 (2nd place).

After the race, Breege spoke to NiRunning and said, “I’m pleased with how today went.  I found it tough along the coast with the headwind, but all in all, I’m happy to come away with a PB (personal best) and delighted to win.”

The humble star added, “I only caught up with Annabel in the 12th mile.”

Breege will now look towards the marathon at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin this August (2018), where she will join a number of Northern Ireland based athletes in the strong Ireland team.

A large number of local athletes travelled to Scotland for the EMF Marathon Festival.  Full results for the event can be found HERE.
