Running Through Lock Down

From Athletics NI.
The recent lock down in Northern Ireland may have put a stop to the traditional athletics events and training, but it did not stop the athletics community from putting on their running shoes to support local charities.
The recent ‘Club Heroes’ campaign highlighted a small part of the fantastic work that our clubs have been doing to keep each other motivated during the pandemic, with many events reinventing themselves as virtual runs, including the TQ10k.
Virtual C25kAthletics NI hosted 3 Virtual C25k Programmes, to help support local charities and to encourage runners to keep active using their one form of exercise per day. We are delighted to say that a total of 97 people took part in the programmes, raising £388.00 for the chosen charities, which included the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust; Inspire Mental Health; PIPS Upper Bann & PIPS Hope & Support Newry.

We would like to say thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part in the Virtual C25k Programmes and like to thank our partners, the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council and the Southern Health Trust.

Buggy Club NI

The Athletics NI programme, Buggy Club NI, also showed an impressive community spirit, during their June Challenge. Runners and their Buggies could take on a range of challenges throughout the month of June, from 5k to 150k, walking or running.

Many of the members smashed the 150k challenge, reaching distances of 190k to over 240k. The entrants raised an amazing £464.68 for perinatal mental health charity, We Are Pangs.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Buggy Club NI June Challenge and we hope to see you all at our Buggy Club track sessions at the Mary Peters Track. Find out more about Buggy Club NI on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BuggyClubNI/
