Giants Trail Race:

Ryan Sharkey (Lagan Valley AC) and Amy Bulman (Willowfield Harriers) emerged victorious as over 300 athletes took on the 4th annual Giants Trail Race in Belfast, an event has increased in popularity and reputation since its first running in 2014.

In sunny but breezy conditions, competitors, covered a challenging 6 mile course over a combination of forest trails, pastures and the Lagan Towpath; all of which will provide views of the River Lagan, before climbing through the woodlands of Minnowburn, passing the sculptures and natural art along the way.  Runners will then pass through the ancient environs of the Neolithic monument at the Giant’s Ring and returning via Edenderry village and Gilchrist Bridge to Shaw’s bridge, finishing at the Dub Playing Fields.

Young Ryan Sharkey looked a class act as he cruised to victory in 33:45 (1^st place).  Behind, North Belfast Harriers Philip Goss secured the runners up spot in 35:19 (2^nd place), before Stephen Wylie of Victoria Park & Connswater AC crossed the line in 36:05 for 3^rd place.

Pre-race favourite Amy Bulman lived up to expectation, securing the win in the ladies race.  The Northern Ireland international finished just outside the forty minute mark, crossing the line in 40:32 for 1^st place.  Claire Ingram of Ballydrain Harriers clocked 44:57 for 2^nd place, while Orla McGandy (Club Unknown) finished in 45:41 for 3^rd place.
