Schools Half Marathon and Schools Marathon Virtual Events Confirmed

The organisers of One Running Movement, a collaborative evolution for movement and change, have announced details of the Schools Half Marathon and Schools Marathon virtual events.

These cumulative virtual running events have been launched following requests from parents and carers during these unprecedented times to complete the Schools Half Marathon and Schools Marathon events at home with their child or children, or outdoors as a family.

All participants must run safely and responsibly, and follow government advice about running and COVID-19 which can be found here.

Athletics NI and the Schools Half Marathon had been planning an event at the Mary Peters Track in the autumn but this will now be scheduled for Spring 2021 to give schools time to plan for it.

However the Schools Half Marathon Virtual Special is open to all runners aged 4+ and is available immediately. This will give children the opportunity to become familiar with the Schools Half Marathon and enjoy running and the rewards that the event offers. Participants run a cumulative total of 13.1 miles, receiving rewards along the way to keep them motivated. They colour in a section of their Colour My Miles trainer chart after each mile, tick off the miles on their A4 wall planner, receive a 6-star wristband after completing 6 miles, and are awarded their Schools Half Marathon medal once they complete the full distance.

Schools Half Marathon Virtual Special is available for a special price of £12 including UK postage. All materials and instructions will be sent in one package, and they are available for immediate dispatch. A limited number of places are available so youngsters, siblings and adults are encouraged to sign up now and join the drive to #MoveForLife.

Schools Marathon Virtual Special is open to all runners aged 13+ and will be available from 1st May 2020. Participants run a cumulative total of 26.2 miles, receiving rewards along the way just like the Schools Half Marathon: a Colour My Miles trainer chart, a wall planner to log the miles, a 6-star wristband and a Schools Marathon medal once the full distance is completed.

Schools Marathon Virtual Special is available for a special price of £12 including UK postage. Participants can sign up now and they will receive their pack in the post from 1st May onwards. This virtual challenge starts from 1st May 2020 and must be completed by 31st December 2020.

One Running Movement also offers two Adult Solo events for ages 17+: the ORM Half Marathon Virtual & Ring Special and ORM Marathon Virtual & Ring Special. These events run from 1st May to 31st December 2020 and for just £15 all finishers will receive a One Running Movement medal, a McLEAR Smart Payment Ring and a 20% discount code for use at Up & Running Online (once proof is received and validated). One Running Movement Co-Founder Joe Williams commented
, “We are delighted to launch our Schools Half Marathon and Schools Marathon Virtual Specials to enable young runners and their families to continue to be active, with something fantastic to work towards, during these unprecedented times. We are doing all that we can to support people and encourage movement, which is a great way to keep physically and emotionally healthy during this time. We would ask all participants to of course follow government guidelines as they do so. We look forward to hearing all about people’s efforts and achievement through our social channels and to developing a community that’s all about positivity, wellbeing and kindness.”
