Fergal’s 10 mile Race 2017:
On Saturday 14th October 2017, just shy of three hundred athletes took to the trails and surrounding roads of Davagh Forest for the inaugural running of Fergal’s 10 mile Race, an event organised in memory of late Acorns AC athlete Fergal Mulgrew, who sadly passed away in October 2016.
Northern Ireland international Scott Rankin (Foyle Valley AC) was a class act at the head of the pack. Scott strong as he powered clear of the field to secure a comfortable win in 53:05 (1st place). Shercock AC’s James Treanor claimed the runners up prize in 55:23, before Eoin Hughes ensured that Acorns AC (the club Fergal was a member of) was represented on the men’s podium. Eoin crossed the line in 57:06 for 3rd place.
Acorns AC dominated the ladies podium with Natalie Hall and Leanne Sands producing impressive performances. Natalie broke the tape in 1:08:17 (1st place) and was followed across the line by Kathleen Diver (St Peter’s AC), who recorded 1:12:06 for 2nd place – Leanne then completed the top three in 1:13:09 (3rd place).
