Scrabo Striders compete at Loughgall and Seeley

On Saturday 30 November thirteen athletes from local running club Scrabo Striders too park in the Loughgall 10K and 5K runs. As part of the Belfast Telegraph Run Forest Run series and organised by BORN2RUN Events the route takes participants through the picturesque village of Loughgall, set in the heart of Orchard County Armagh, through forest paths and finishing in the Loughgall Estate via the impressive main gates.

 

In the 10K event Lesley Semple was first Strider home in 50 minutes 8 seconds followed a second later by Paul Morrow, then Steven McCormick in 54:18, Marty McCullough 56:03, Ken Rodgers 56:21, Richard Murray 56:29 and Angie Crone in 01:11:51.

 

In the 5K event husband Kim Cochrane was the first Scrabo Strider to finish in a time of 37:40 followed by Erin Donnelly 40:25, Clare McCormick 44:13, Susanne McVea 44:27, Alison Rodgers 46:23 and Mariead Curran in 46:25. Well done all!

 

The annual Seeley Cup 10K in Ormeau Park was the culmination of the 2019 Novosco 10K Grand Prix, a 15-race series of age graded running competitions that started back in March. Twenty-five Scrabo Striders took part with Thomas Steele first to finish for the Club in 38 minutes 45 seconds followed by Norman Mawhinney in 39:38, Graeme McGowan in 42:41, Tim McEwan 44:05, Paul Sheldon 44:53 and Peter McGonigal in 45:30.

 

Scrabo’s first lady finisher was Lynn Sheldon in 48:53 improving her time by 32 seconds on last year followed by Gayle Malaugh in 50:28, Liz Turton 51:34, Amanda Martin 51:47 and Carol Bailie in 53:45. In under 58 minutes came Wendy Thompson, Jacqueline Magee, Lyndsey Blair and Sonya Summersgill. This very popular forest trail run was also completed by Striders Catherine Dobbin and Nikki Keery.

 

At Comber Parkrun Curtis McCaw returned to form taking overall 4th place in 19 minutes 54 seconds for the 5km distance, followed by Colin Harper with a new personal best time of 21:27followed by Alice McNamara in 25:37. Over at Stormont a new personal best of 23:07 was secured by Marty McConnell, all solid improvements by Scrabo Striders showing that hard work pays.

 

Parkrun tourism continues with six striders travelling to Antrim, where Martina Finn recorded 26:51 followed a second later by Fiona McAvoy, then Patricia Adams in 27:34. David Rainey, Linda Ingram and Karen Thompson also ran. All the way to California Jonathan Winter completed the Crissy Field parkrun in a great time of 23:13.
