Seamus Lynch and Esther Dickson continue to impress in NIMRA Championship 2018:

Flagstaff to Carlingford Mountain Race 2018:

The always impressive Seamus Lynch (Newcastle AC) and Esther Dickson (Newry AC) claimed top honours as athletes from across Northern Ireland took on the latest round of the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association (NIMRA) Championship, the Flaggstaff to Carlingford Mountain Race (Sunday 17th June 2018).

The event, which covers 11 miles in distance and incorporates 3,000ft of ascent, has picked up a reputation for being a test of local knowledge and navigational skills, with visibility traditionally bad on race day.

This year was no different and it threw up some surprises, with varied route choices, but it did not stop the pre-race favourites from securing victory.  Seamus saw off the challenge of former NIMRA Champion Jonny Steede (Glens Runners) to win in 1:47:00 (1st place).  Jonny followed just five seconds later in 1:47:05 (2nd place), with the emerging Newry AC star Keiron Kelly completing the top three in 1:47:52 (3rd place).

In the ladies race, Esther broke the tape in 2:08:35 (1st place) to win by almost ten minutes from fellow Northern Ireland international Gillian Wasson (Ballymena Runners), who crossed the line in 2:18:09 for 2nd place.  Mourne Runners’ Sarah Graham, who won this week’s Hill & Dale Series event at ‘The Meels’ clocked 2:19:33 for 3rd place.
