(NI & Ulster Team 2019 event in Perth, Scotland)

Northern Ireland Team : Up to five(5) men and five(5) Women(100K)

Northern Ireland and Ulster Ultra Running(NIUUR) will be taking a self-funded team to the Anglo Celtic Plate 100K Home International next Spring in England.

This is seen as the continuing development of ultra running in the Province following on from the two (2) bronze medals achieved in Scotland at the Anglo-Celt in 2019.

The aim of selection is to provide an opportunity for ultra-distance athletes on the development pathway to prepare for future competition at European and World level.

Selection Timeline

Ultra runners must email Ed Smith(chairperson, NIUUR) to express interest by Monday,11th November 2019 and should include a CV outlining performances in the last two(2) years.

The date of selection will be the week beginning November 18, 2019.

Selection Panel

1. Ed Smith, chair NIUUR. (Voting).

2. Jackie Newton, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development ( or other Athletics NI staff member if unavailable).(Voting).

3. Member of NIUUR committee.(Voting).

The chair may also (at his/her discretion) seek assistance ( in a non-voting capacity) from anyone else whom it is felt may be of help.

Any voting member shall declare any conflict of interest in respect of any selection issue and shall not be entitled to vote on that issue.

Selection Criteria

The following consideration standards achieved within the last two(2) years will be taken into account when ultra runners are considered for selection:

Essential

Applicants must have Athletics NI club membership.

Experience of completing an ultra race.

Desirable

100K race in 9hrs 30mins(men) or 10 hrs(women)

50K race in 3hrs 30mins(men) or 3hrs 45mins(women)

Marathon in 2hrs 40mins(men) or 3hrs(women)

Experience of looped ultra events

50K trail race.

Performances must have been achieved in the two(2) years prior to the selection date; and where there are fewer ultra runners with the consideration standard than the team size, numbers will not be back filled.

The following may also be taken into consideration:

Documented evidence that ultra runners are committed to their own development and have shown progression in the last two years.

Adherence to the Code of Conduct and any outstanding disciplinary matters.

The ‘desirable’ criteria above are not listed in any order of priority and the selection panel will exercise discretion fairly and without bias in making selection decisions.
