Slieve Gullion Runners News Round-up

(Our club celebrates 5yrs. Our founding member Dermot Winters with our club sponsor from the beginning, Graeme Finegan of Grounded Espresso Bars Newry)
Slieve Gullion Forest Park was bask in winter sunshine for  our clubs 2nd annual G819 8 Mile /8K Run & 8K Walk which saw large crowds gather for this growing event that saw clubs from near and far.
The club was proud to play host and share the beautiful surroundings of Slieve Gullion that we call our running home and it was great to hear the great feedback not just on the venue but the event as a whole.
All the hard work was well worth it and the club can be proud of an outstanding event that was only possible because of our hard working members and our main sponsors Mulkerns Eurospar and  all our sponsors support who once again not only supported the event but  the  fight for Alfie whom our event is donating proceeds to.
This year was also a special year for our club as we celebrated our 5th Birthday that saw our founding member Dermot Winters with our club sponsor from the beginning Graeme Finegan of .Grounded Espresso Bars Newry cut a cake to mark the big day.
The celebrations did not stop there as everyone taking part enjoyed the winter sun and would have taken in the beautiful morning to savour the amazing scenery of Slieve Gullion Forest on show .
The event also saw some amazing running as well as the walkers on the day and everyone took a well earned break at the finish and enjoyed the refreshments that we thank everyone for their help, with the dust just settling on the event we will thank everyone for their help as there is so many to thank and would like to do this in a proper way as not to leave anyone out.
The club would really like to thank the strong turn out on the day from everyone and we look forward to seeing you all in 2020 for the G820, the event this year was not a chip timing event.

Well done to SGR Robbie Marsh and Martin Campbell as they took on the The Thwarted Rebellion a 75 mile (120 Km) Ultra Marathon in Mid Wales at Glyndŵr’s Way National Trail with a total ascent of just over 12,500ft (3810m). The event starts in Knighton, just on the Welsh border and finishes in Machynlleth. It is one of the most beautiful and demanding ultra running routes in the UK. Conditions were poor lashing down on the men and windy from the start of the race and that continued throughout, The two SGR men battled with running mate Sean Nickel and came home close to 27 hrs.. Well done to them all on this outstanding achievement.
