Stephen Duncan and Sinead McCann win Dromore 10k… plus weekend round-up!


Dromore 10k Road Race 2017:

On Saturday 24th June 2017, nearly five hundred competitors turned out for the annual Dromore 10k and associated events, which also included a 5k race.

At the front end of the field, Northern Ireland and Ireland international Stephen Duncan (Omagh Harriers) excelled, securing victory in 33:38 (1st place).  Stephen Cassidy (Enniskillen RC) followed in 34:00 for 2nd place, Conor Maguire (Omagh Harriers) completed the top three in 36:08 (3rd place).

In the ladies race, Sinead McCann (Omagh Tri Club) clocked 43:27 for 1st place, before Anne MacFarlane (Dumfries Running Club) crossed the line in 46:19 (2nd place) for the runners up prize.  Liz O’Brien (Dromore AC) covered the route in 46:34, securing 3rd place.

Elsewhere this weekend…

Killyleagh 5 mile Road Race:

On Friday 23rd June 2017, East Down AC duo Neil McCartan and Catherine O’Connor impressed at the Killyleagh 5 mile road race in County Down.  Neil led the field home in 26:37 (1st place), while Catherine topped the ladies podium in 31:46 (1st place).

Hell 4 Leather 10k:

On Sunday 25th June 2017, Acorns AC man Eoin Hughes was the overwhelming winner of the Hell 4 Leather 10k race.  Eoin showed his class with a 34:02 clocking for 1st place, which was just shy of three minutes clear of his nearest rival.  Ballymena Runners’ Judith Worthington continued her rise through the ranks with victory in the ladies race – Judith broke the tape in 44:04 (1st place).

Dunshaughlin 10k (Ireland):

On Saturday 24th June 2017, former St Malachy’s AC man Gary Murray returned to competition with a 4th place finish at the Dunshaughlin 10k road race (Ireland).  Northern Ireland international Gary recorded 31:25 for the distance.

Mark McKinstry (North Belfast Harriers) was another of the large NI contingent who impressed – Mark took 5th place in 31:36!  Full results for the event are available HERE.
