Stephen O’Gorman recreates history at Newry Mayors 10k!

Newry Mayors 10k 2017:

On Wednesday 18th May 2017, nearly one hundred competitors turned out for the Newry Majors 10k road race in Newry.  There was a special story for winner Stephen O’Gorman of Dromore AC.

Amazingly, history repeated itself – 60 years after his Grandad Cyril Rice won in the 1950’s, when the race was known as the Lisburn Cup, Stephen won in 33:45 (1st place).  Adding to the story, Thomas O’Gorman, Stephen’s brother, took 2nd place in 35:00.   Aidan Brown (Newry City Runners) claimed 3rd place in 36:32.

In the ladies race,  Lisa Mooney (Club Unknown) edged out Northern Ireland mountain runner Mari Troeng (Newcastle AC) to win in 41:43 (1st place).  Mari followed in 42:11 (2nd place).  Aine Fegan (Newry City Runners) crossed the line in 42:38 for 3rd place.
