Morton Games 2018:

Northern Ireland athletes Stephen Scullion (Clonliffe Harriers / Stephen Haas) and Ciara Mageean (UCD AC / Steve Vernon) starred as local competitors came up against world class talent at last night’s Morton Games in Dublin (Thursday 19th July 2018).

Stephen Scullion continued what has been a sensational year with yet another personal best.  Competing over 5,000m, the Belfast man slashed eight seconds off his previous best when crossing the line in 13:50.94 (7th place).

In the 800m, Ciara Mageean looked in good form as she secured the runners up spot in 2:02.13, a seasons best.  Last month, the New Balance UK athlete recorded 2:03.19 over the same distance.

Ballymena & Antrim AC’s Craig Newell (Ian Neely) was the impressive winner of a close men’s 400m ‘B’ race, dipping for victory in 47.98.  Fellow NI man Andrew Mellon (Crusaders AC / Brendan McConville) followed in 48.12 for 2nd place.

In-form Conall Kirk (Annadale Striders / Mark Kirk) ran 1:54.11 for 6th place in the 800m event – training partner Callum Crawford-Walker (Annadale Striders / Mark Kirk) clocked 1:56.40 (11th place) in the same race.
