Stephen Scullion and Emma Mitchell excel at Newell 10k Road Race!

Newell 10k Road Race 2018:

European Athletics Championships bound athletes Stephen Scullion (Clonliffe Harriers) and Emma Mitchell (QUB AC) topped the podium as hundreds of competitors took on the Newell 10k and 5k road races in Coalisland (Friday 29th June 2018).

The well-organised and fast emerging event saw athletes take on a fast and flat 10k course, and with a strong field assembled, thanks to the work of the organisers, it made for an excellent night of racing.

At the sharp end, in warm conditions, Stephen Scullion secured victory in a course record time of 30:12 (1st place).  NI & Ulster 5,000m champion Conor Bradley (City of Derry AC) followed in 31:45 (2nd place), before Paddy Hamilton (Slieve Gullion Runners) crossed the line in 32:07 for 3rd place.

Meanwhile in the ladies race, pre-race favourite Emma Mitchell (QUB AC) made light work of the excellent field as she clocked 34:59 for 1st place.  Training partner Sinead Sweeney (QUB AC) made it a 1-2 for QUB AC and coach Eamonn Christie in 38:16 (2nd place). Amy Bulman of Willowfield Harriers completed the ladies podium in 39:17 (3rd place).
