Connswater 10k & 5k 2017:
On Sunday 20th August 2017, nearly seven hundred competitors took on the inaugural Run Connswater 10k and 5k races in Belfast. The 10k route saw athletes run through landmarks including CS Lewis Square, Victoria Park, Connswater Greenway, over the Sam Thompson Bridge and the Harbour Estate.
It was fitting that a man who represents Victoria Park & Connswater AC took top honours – Stephen Wylie, a talented and always impressive runner, broke the tape in 34:34 (1st place). His club mate John Craig (Victoria Park & Connswater AC) followed in 34:54 (2nd place), finishing just one second ahead of Chris Hutchinson (Club Unknown) to secure 3rd place.
Interestingly, the ladies winner also has a connection with the course – Lyndsey Tyro of Orangegrove AC, a club based in East Belfast who use Victoria Park and surrounding areas for training, led the way. Lyndsey clocked 43:47 for 1st place. Lucie Fournier (Unattached) crossed the line in 44:00 for 2nd place, while Belfast Running Club’s Athanasia Sevastaki completed the podium in 45:11 (3rd place).
In the associated 5k race, Brian Kinsella (Club Unknown) led the field home in 16:42 (1st place), while Ballymena Runners athlete Paula Worthington continued her recent form to win in 19:44 (1st place).
