Striders Jingle all the Way

Members of Scrabo Striders Running Club put their Christmas shopping on hold on Saturday 21st December to take part in Hazelbank Park Christmas Run.  Runners in various festive costumes ran the 5 mile course in Hazelbank Park.  Matthew Cavill was first strider home in 36:04, followed in second place and first lady strider home Fiona McAvoy in 41:50.  Patricia Adams (47:20) and Jacqueline Bell (48:42) jingling round in under 50mins.  Linda Ingram, David Rainey, Nicola Forsythe and Rebecca Lund completing in under the hour and Karen Thomspon joining them for well-deserved mince pies and Christmas refreshments in 1:01.

Festivities continued on Sunday 22nd December when the local running club organised the Festive 4 for its members and affiliates.  Adults ran the out and back 4 mile course along the coastal floodgates on a cold but bright and sunny Sunday afternoon.  Juniors completing 1km and Foundations 2miles of the same course.  Local walkers were entertained by Elves, Reindeers and several Mr and Mrs Claus’ running the trail and the sound of festive bells on costumes was continuous as runners crossed the finish line.  David Stevenson winning overall and Shannon Clegg first female.  Foundation prize winners were Aaron Blaine and Riley Hanna.  Ollie Hanna and Faye Alexander lifting Junior prizes.

As usual many Striders supported  Park Runs with Bangor and Comber the popular local runs.  Striders also ran at Stormont, Victoria and Orangefield.
