Termoneeny Running Club News week ending 13th October, 2019

It has been an exciting weekend of racing with TRC members literally travelling the world to take part in events from 5K to one of the World Major Marathons!

 Sands 5K Dungiven

On Saturday 12th October Michelle Comer and Tom Halferty headed over the Glenshane Pass to take part in a charity couch to 5K run in aid of the charity Sands. It was a beautiful sunny morning and we are delighted to see members supporting such worth causes, well done to both of you.

Our first international run this week came from Kerry Archibald who, while in Berlin pulled on her trainers and took park in the Hasenheide Parkrun, finishing in an excellent time of 26:52 and was 10th female home in what was Kerry’s 17th Parkrun. Great running Kerry and safe home!

ECOS Parkrun, Ballymena

Michael Burke travelled to the ECOS Centre in Ballymena for this popular Parkrun on Saturday morning, finishing in an impressive 19:43, coming in 7th overall, congratulations Michael!

Kells and Connor Half Marathon/5 Mile Race

There was a great turnout at the annual Kells and Connor Half/5 Miler this year with TRC runners participating in both distances. The weather proved somewhat inclement and there were a few more hills than anticipated, however this did not impede our runners from returning some sterling performances with pbs to boot!  Runners were piped over the worst of the hills and enjoyed some unrivalled post-race hospitality. Full results are as follows:  5 Mile – Shauna Melaugh 39:29, Denise Martin 45:08, Edel Mulholland 51:41.   Half Marathon –
Mark Baxter 1:38:25, Andy Campbell 2:25:48, Ann Johnston 2:28:14, Colette Donaghy 2:29:27, Sinead McGrogan 2:30:00 PB!

This race also marked Andy’s 100th competitive race in exactly one year – congratulations Andy who also won a spot prize on the day – well deserved!

Oisin McGrath Foundation 5K

Well done Andy Campbell who, after completing a half marathon yesterday, was out running again on Sunday in Belcoo in aid of the Oisin Mc Grath Foundation in a time of 32.31. This was another tough and hilly course but all in aid of a super charity. Good man Andy!

Bank of America Chicago Marathon

Four TRC members began their journey to Chicago on Friday to take part in what is one of the World Major Marathons on Sunday.  The Chicago Marathon is known for its flat and fast course, starting and finishing  in Grant Park. It travels through one of the world’s most magnificent cities where runners enjoy the support of 1.7 million spectators as they run through 29 neighbourhoods. Taking part were husband and wife, Gary and Anne O’Doherty, and sisters Kerry Evans and Tara Montgomery.  Amazing performances were delivered by all four runners. The Club are so proud to have had you represent us as this event. Full results are as follows:  Gary O’Doherty 2:47:53 PB, Anne O’Doherty 3:31:36 PB, Kerry Evans  3:55:28, Tara Montgomery 4:15:55 PB. Huge congratulations to Gary, Anne and Tara on their PBs. Tara smashed her marathon pb by 40 minutes! Special mention goes to Kerry Evans on a fantastic come back after being benched by injury for three months this year and only returning 8 weeks ago.

Thank you and congratulations to all of our members who continue to represent the Club so well throughout the country and further afield in a variety of distances and disciplines.   If you are interested in joining Termoneeny RC please visit termoneenyrc.com or send us a message on facebook.
