Termoneeny Running Club Round Up w/e 17th November 2019

It was an action-packed week for Termoneeny Running Club.  Among the variety of events attended by members was a midweek marathon, an international cross-country championship and some races were also represented by the club in London.

EAMS Dave Brady’s 899 Flake Marathon

This marathon took place on Wednesday in Woodburn Forest and was organised to celebrate the 899th marathon completed by David Brady who is the president of Marathon Club Ireland.  On his next marathon, David will join the marathon 900 club.  No strangers to marathons themselves, Fergal Hughes and Declan Leung were among the participants and recorded excellent times of 3 hours 36 minutes and 4 hours 13 minutes respectively.  Well done to Fergal and Declan.

 Run in the Dark 5k

This fixture took place on Wednesday night and two members journeyed up to Belfast for the iconic Run in the Dark 5k/10k.  They joined thousands of others who were running under the night sky through the floodlit Stormont Estate in support of the Mark Pollock Trust whose mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury.  It was an atmospheric run but challenging nonetheless, particularly on the ascent towards Stormont Parliament Buildings.  Both members ran superbly with Ann McGarvey finishing in 35:31 and a few seconds later was Anne Breen who finished in 35:54.

British and Irish Masters Cross Country International

Tommy Hughes came second in his age category (over 55) at this prestigious and highly competitive Cross Country in Liverpool on Saturday.  Tommy ran the 8k course in a super fast time of 27:26.  Fantastic running yet again from Tommy.

Run Forest Run, Drum Manor

Trail runs are never easy but they can make a nice change from road racing and Nicola Clements rose to the challenge of the Drum Manor 5k which is part of the Run Forest Run series.  Nicola had a terrific result of 42:28.

Remembrance 10k

Well done to Andy Campbell who completed the Remembrance 10k in Stranorlar on Sunday morning.  After his parkrun on the previous day, Andy was still fresh on his feet and completed the run in a great time of 1:11:45.

Forkhill 10k

Four TRC members took part in the Forkhill ‘Race Around the Brac’ 10k, also on Sunday morning.  It was a beautiful run, although hilly in parts but with a lovely downhill finish.  Brilliant results were recorded by everyone.

Damian O’Boyle 48:03; Shaun Dillon 50:47; Carmel Dillon 1:01:21; Joe Dillon 1:01:21

Co. Down 5k Championship

A very fast field of runners took to the streets of Downpatrick on Sunday morning and TRC members certainly helped to set the pace.  After a tremendous run at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country on just the day before, Tommy Hughes set a new course record for his age category with a super swift time of 16:13.  Tommy’s nephew, Jarlath Hughes, who is returning after injury had a fantastic result of 17:32.  Another brilliant performance was on display by Dara Curley who finished in 21:11.

Congratulations to all the TRC members who represent the club throughout the country and further afield.  If you are interested in joining Termoneeny RC please visit termoneenyrc.com or send us a message on Facebook.
