KBC Dublin City Marathon

It was a beautiful crisp day on Sunday for the 40th Dublin City Marathon where we had 14 runners taking part, some taking on the 26.2 mile distance for the first time and one runner taking part in his 63 marathon.

Our first runner home was our Club Secretary and coach Declan Leung. Declan has trained very hard this year and it paid off with a huge PB, smashing his previous PB by almost 6 minutes, romping home in a super time of 3:24:38! Congratulations Declan!

Our first lady home was Anne O’Doherty  who finished in an impressive 3:32:46 followed closely by Kerry Evans (both ladies had ran the Chicago Marathon just two weeks prior). Christian Fortes O’Neill completed his 63rd marathon (13th this year) with a PB. Also notching up a PB was Christina  McErlean who was followed closely by Michelle Comer who ran her first marathon.   Gerard Henry and Joe Young were not far behind.

Next to finish was Kerry Archibald, followed by first time marathoner Andrea Convery.  Next in were Catherine Paul and Tara Montgomery who crossed the line together together. Congratulations to Tara for running her second marathon in two weeks after also completing Chicago.

Our latest signing Quinten Gilmore was next in, finishing in 4:51:57. This was Quinten’s first marathon too – congratulations and a very warm welcome to the Club from everyone at TRC!

Finally, but my no means least we are delighted for Andy Campbell who also ran his first marathon in aid of Action Mental Health and raised over £1200 for the charity.  Huge congratulations to everyone! Here are the results are as follows:

Mainova Frankfurt Marathon

What an amazing day Sunday was for father and son Tommy and Eoin Hughes in Germany.

After narrowly missing out on a WR in Belfast at the Half Marathon for the combined record, this amazing duo did not disappoint at the Frankfurt Marathon.

According to ergebnisse.de, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is the by far fastest among the five largest German marathons and ranks as the third fastest city race in the world with an average finish time of 3:57:56.   The route is circular and runs along both sides of the river Main. The first part of the route leads the runners through the city of Frankfurt with its fascinating skyline, then to the district of Sachsenhausen, towards the residential area of Höchst and back along the Mainzer Landstrasse through the city center and the trade fair tower into the Festhalle with its red carpet.

Looking strong and on course for success from the outset, Tommy finished in 2:27:52 setting a new age WR (smashing his record set in Rotterdam earlier this year), with Eoin close behind him finishing in 2:27:53. The combined time of 4:59:22, almost 3 minutes faster than the previous record which was 5:02:11 is a new Guinness World Record (pending official confirmation).   What a fantastic achievement for both men. We are all incredibly proud and delighted for both runners on their well-deserved success!

Run for CRY, Randalstown

Also taking place on Sunday was the Fundraiser Walk, Cycle or Run for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) where four of our members took part in the 4 mile run in Randalstown.  Well done everyone for supporting such a worthy cause.
