Termoneeny Running Club Round Up week ending 25th August 2019

It was a busy but very successful week for Termoneeny Running Club and representatives were found at many different events across the country.  A summer of training is certainly paying off as members are reaching new goals in both speed and distance. 

Dessie’s 10k

The first race of the week, Dessie’s 10k, took place in Derry on Wednesday evening.  Tommy Hughes displayed fantastic running yet again and finished first in his age category with a brilliant result of 33:25.  Well done to Tommy and appreciation is forwarded to City of Derry Spartans for hosting this event.

Portrush 5 Mile Race

On Friday evening a group of TRC members travelled to Portrush for its annual 5 mile race.  It was an extremely challenging route but enjoyable nonetheless.  The club extends a warm welcome to new member Paula Smyth who represented Termoneeny for the first time.  Terrific results were accomplished by all members.

KBC Frank Duffy 10 Mile Race

Kevin Darragh journeyed to Dublin for the KBC Frank Duffy 10 Mile Race which started in Phoenix Park.  In very warm conditions, Kevin still managed to run a fantastic time of 1:17:17.  Well done Kevin.

Parkrun

MUSA

Pauline McWilliams who ran her 37th parkrun in MUSA and finished in a great time of 33:12. Christina and Sinead McErlean were both a first timers at MUSA and completed the course in an impressive 24:56 and 36:34 respectively.

Antrim

Lindsay Gibson ran Antrim parkrun along with her son Jay. This was Lindsay’s 23rd parkrun and she had a terrific time of 33:58. Her son Jay finished just seconds ahead in 33:55. Well done Lindsay and Jay.

Falcarragh

Louise Trainor took the opportunity to complete Falcarragh Parkrun during a trip to Donegal and achieved a super result of 29:19. Great running Louise.

Stormont

Kirsty Quigg completed Stormont parkrun in a very swift time of 24:36.  Well done Kirsty.

Armagh City Festival of Running

In the 4th year of this weekend long event, two TRC members travelled to Armagh to participate in the Armagh City Fesival of Running.  Kerry Archibald completed the Half Marathon on Saturday in a brilliant time of 2:14:23.   James McNally took on the huge challenge of back to back marathons. He ran his first marathon on Saturday and his second on Sunday.  What a huge achievement for James.

Rock the Lakes and Lough 5k

Six TRC ladies headed to Oxford Island Nature Reserve on Sunday for the Rock the Lakes and Lough 5k.  This was a scenic, multi-terrain but challenging run. Proceeds from this event will support the Mandeville Unit in Craigavon Hospital. Thanks to St. Peter’s AC in Lurgan for hosting this enjoyable race. Well done to all members who displayed fantastic running.  Results: Olivia McKenna 28:39; Tracy Shanahan 32:05; Moya Lagan 32:16; Sueling Tang 34:40; Nicola Clements 42:12; Sabrena McLaughlin 42:13

Storm the Castle 10k 

Andy Campbell and Sabrena McLaughlin took part in the Storm the Castle 10k at Carrickfergus which also took place on Sunday. Andy managed to achieve a new personal best in sweltering heat by taking 1 minute off his previous PB and achieved a brilliant new time of 1:03:14. Sabrena ran her second race of the day because she had already completed a 5k in Lurgan. This did not stop her from still delivering a super performance and finished in 1:25:19. Brilliant running Andy and Sabrena.

Rose of Tralee 10k

Breda McPeake shone in her home county of Kerry when she achieved a brand new personal best at the Rose of Tralee 10k. Breda completed the race in a speedy time of 50:59.

Mourne Triathlon

Kevin Duggan completed the Mourne Sprint Distance Triathlon on Sunday. He swam in the waters of Castlewellan Lake, biked on roads with views of the Mournes and finished by running around Castlewellan Forest Park. He did all of this in an incredibly fast time of 1:23:02. Well done Kevin.
