Vincent McKenna and Cathy McCourt top the podium at B2R Antrim Castle 10k!

Born 2 Run ‘Run Forest Run’ Antrim Castle 10k & 5k Trail Races:

On Saturday 3rd February 2018, nearly one thousand competitors descended on the stunning Antrim Castle Grounds in Antrim Town, for the latest installment in the Born 2 Run ‘Run Forest Run’ Series, the Antrim Castle 10k & 5k races.

As expected, QUB AC athlete and consistent performer throughout the Series, Vincent McKenna, took charge.  Vincent dominated at the front and ran out clear winner in 34:02 (1st place).  Mark Smith (Mallusk Harriers) ran well to take 2nd place in 34:36, while Oliver Cook (PACE Running Club), completed the men’s podium in 34:55 (3rd place).

It was a similar story in the ladies race, with pre-race favourite Cathy McCourt (Unattached) living up to expectation with a comfortable win.  Cathy clocked 38:09 (1st place) for top honours.  Talented Ballycastle Runners athlete Gemma McDonald continued her return to racing with another podium place – following on from her win at the Dungiven 10k last week, Gemma ran 39:07 for 2nd place.  Kate Simple (Acorns AC) crossed the line in 42:17 for 3rd place.

In the associated 5k race, Ricky McKnight (PACE Running Club) won the closely contested men’s race in 17:50 (1st place), while junior athlete Jodie McMullen (Unattached) took the lades title in 20:47 (1st place); this was enough to see Jodie finish in 6th place overall.
