Vincent McKenna and Gladys Ganiel O’Neill excel at Born 2 Run ‘Run Forest Run’ finale!

Born 2 Run ‘Run Forest Run’ Castlewellan 10k 2018:

Over 700 hundred runners descended on Castlewellan Country Park in County Down for the final race of Born 2 Run’s ‘Run Forest Run’ Series and fittingly, it was two athletes who have been at the forefront of the Series who excelled (Saturday 24th February 2017).

QUB AC’s Vincent McKenna has topped the podium on numerous occasions, while Gladys Ganiel O’Neill of North Belfast Harriers has produced arguably the most impressive individual performance – both starred today with overwhelming class.

Vincent led the field home in 35:11, securing 1st place nearly one minute ahead of nearest rival Noel Kerr (Unattached), another athlete who has run well throughout the Series.  Noel clocked 36:20 for 2nd place in the men’s race, before Gladys crossed the line in 37:47 (1st place) to win the ladies race and take 3rd place overall.

North Belfast Harriers veteran David Clarke followed in 38:49 for 4th place overall and 3rd place in the men’s event.

Unattached athlete Cathy McCourt (39:57) and Mourne Runners’ Joanne Graham (44:32) claimed 2nd place and 3rd place in the ladies race.

In the associated 5k, Jared Martin (Scrabo Striders) won in 17:59 (1st place), with Pauline Troughton (Unattached) winning the ladies race in 20:13 (1st place).
