Weekend Preview:  Northern Ireland team set for British & Irish International XC 2018

This weekend will see a strong team from Northern Ireland travel to Wales for the British & Irish Masters International XC in Swansea (Saturday 17th November 2018).

The team, selected and announced by the Northern Ireland Masters Athletics Association (NIMAA) following their annual cross country event in Belfast last month (October 2018), contains a wealth of talent and experience; the local athletes will take on teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The ladies team is as follows:

FV35 – Gemma McDonald, Amy Bulman, Natalie Hall, Jodi Smith. Reserves – Suzanne Higgins, Catherine Hribar.

FV40 – Paula Worthington, Jenny Black, Denise Logue, Patricia Blair. Reserves – Geraldine Quigley, Helen Byers.

FV45 – Jennifer Hamilton, Pauline Thom, Judith Nixon, Rhonda Brady.

FV50 – Shileen O’Kane, Jackie McMonagle, Debbie Matchett, Heather Kelly.

FV55 – Martina Elliott, Paula McGilloway, Susanna Allen, Bernie Regan. Reserve – Bridgeen Byrne.

FV60 – Patricia Brown.

FV70 – Brigid Quinn.

The men’s team is as follows:

MV35 – Mark McKinstry, Allan Bogle, Chris McGuinness, John Craig, Pius McIntyre, Stephen Nicholson. Reserves – David Proctor, Philip Donnelly.

MV40 – Gareth Lyons, Neil Weir, Wesley McDowell, David Turtle, Anthony Glover, Noel Napier. Reserves – Paul Thompson, Brian Taggart, Nicky Napier.

MV45 – Eamon White, Gavin McDermott, Gary Henderson, Nigel McKibben, Justin Reid, Mark Smith. Reserves – Thomas Carson, Alex Brennan.

MV50 – Steve Cairns, Duncan Bell, Neil Carty, James Turtle, Seanie Meyler, Bernard Brady. Reserve – Chris Woods.

MV55 – David Clarke, James Wallace, Noel Connor, Bryan Edgar. Reserves – Gary Keenan, Sean McAllister.

MV60 – Lawrence Johnston, Gerry O’Doherty, Owen McNally, Robert Wilson. Reserves – Paul Spick, Dave Futcher.

MV65 – Terry Eakin, Brian Todd, Peter Gray Pat Rocks. Reserve – Barry Morris.

MV70 – Gerry Lynch, Tony Gray, Frances Boal.

MV75 – Jim Platt, Hugh Young, Michael Gilmore.

There will also be a number of familiar faces in the Ireland team.

Born 2 Run Events followers gear up for next ‘Run Forest Run’ installment:

Hundreds of competitors will take on the latest installment of the Born 2 Run ‘Run Forest Run’ Series this weekend (Saturday 17th November 2018).

Following on from the successful Minnowburn, where Christopher Devine and Gemma McDonald sealed victory, Race 2 will take place in Drum Manor; competitors will again have the choice of racing either 10k or 5k.

Both Christopher and Gemma could return to the start line here – in the ladies race, Ballycastle Runners star Gemma will be joined by Julie Murphy (Lagan Valley AC), Catherine Roberts (North Down AC)

Meanwhile, in the men’s event, Don Travers (Newry City Runners), Stephen Walker (North Belfast Harriers), Ian Keys (Lagan Valley AC) and Gavin McCaffrey (Unattached) could be amongst the front runners.
