Weekend Round Up:  What we haven’t covered so far…

On an immensely busy weekend of running, we’ve managed to capture most of the main events so far – summaries are available on our ‘NEWS‘ page.

Here is a round-up of other notable performances this weekend (Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March 2018).

Barcelona Marathon:

NI’s Eoin Lennon (Carnethy HRC) recorded 2:29:43 at this mornings Barcelona Marathon – this was enough to see Eoin secure 17th place.

Aisling Allum (Carnethy HRC), also from NI, crossed the line in 3:27:41, while County Antrim Harriers athlete Natasha Henderson recorded 3:29:49 in her debut over the classic distance.

Scottish Athletics Under 20 Indoor Track & Field Championships:

In Glasgow, at Scottish Athletics Under 20 Indoor Track & Field Championships (Saturday 10th March 2018), Athletics NI Youth Academy athlete Josh Armstrong (City of Lisburn AC / Michelle Rea) won the Scottish Under 20 60m hurdles title with a new personal best of 8.19; interestingly, this moves Josh up to 9th in Power of 10 rankings.

26extreme Carlingford Half Marathon:

Beechmount Harriers pair Noel McNally and Gerrie Short excelled as nearly 500 athletes took on the annual Carlingford Half Marathon (Saturday 10th March 2018).

Noel led the field home in 1:14:28 (1st place), approximately ninety seconds ahead of Newry City Runners athlete Christopher Devine, who recorded 1:15:56 for 2nd place.  In the ladies race, Northern Ireland international Gerrie crossed the line in 1:24:28 for 1st place.  Full results for the event are on our RESULTS page.

Atlas Running Shanes Castle Event:

On Saturday 10th March 2018, local events management company Atlas Running hosted the Shanes Castle Ultra (39.3 miles), Marathon and Half Marathon in Antrim.

David Jones (Club Unknown) won the 39.3 mile Ultra in 5:14:55 (1st place), with Fran McFadden (Springwell RC) taking the ladies title in 6:27:46 (1st place).

In the 26.2 mile event, Willowfield Harriers new boy Aaron Woodman took top honours in 2:56:59 (1st place).  In the ladies race, it was Ballydrain Harriers athlete Fiona Prue who broke the tape first, clocking 3:48:33 (1st place).

Duncan Bell and Russell Hughes, both of Willowfield Harriers, recorded the same finish time in the 13.1 mile race.  For the second time in the last three weeks nothing separated the pair – they shared the top prize at the Atlas Running Castle Ward Trail Race a few weeks ago.  This time, they both ran 1:22:09, with Duncan taking 1st place and Russell 2nd place.  The ladies race was won by Karen Wilton in 1:29:29 (1st place).  Full results for the event are on our RESULTS page.

Addiction NI 10k Road Race:

Hundreds of athletes descended on Ormeau Park in Belfast for the Addiction NI 10k Road Race (Sunday 11th March 2018), but it was QUB AC’s Vincent McKenna and Unattached athlete Sarah Porter who excelled.

Vincent, a regular on the podium recently, won in 34:27 (1st place).  In the ladies race, Sarah recorded 44:19 for 1st place.  Full results for the event are on our RESULTS page.

Dromintee Rocky Road 10k:

Brian McCluskey (North East Runners) was the emphatic winner of the annual Dromintee Rocky Road 10k (Sunday 11th March 2018), easing to victory in 34:57 (1st place).  In the ladies race, St Gerard’s Dundalk athlete Leah Mooney won in 43:16 (1st place); this was enough to see Leah take 6th place overall.  Full results for the event are available on our RESULTS page.
