MEET THE RUNNER – Sarah Lavin

Sarah Lavin
Sarah Lavin achieves european championship qualifying mark

A popular regular at the Mary Peters Track, Sarah Lavin broke the stadium record in 2021 when competing in her specialist 100m hurdles. The previous record had been held by a certain Sally Gunnell.
Sarah is a member of Emerald AC in Limerick and one of her greatest achievements to date was qualifying for and competing in the Tokyo Olympics. She has also gone sub 13 second with her PB currently standing at 12.95 (she has run 8.06 indoors in the 60m hurdles). Other highlights include finishing 9th in the European Indoor Championships, claiming European Junior silver and European Youth bronze.
Ask her when she first realised she was a fast runner and, “In my primary school yard,” is the answer. Sarah comes from a family that is interested in sport and keeping fit, she weeks to have been the only one with a real competitive streak though.

She puts her success down to determination, something very visible when you see her compete.
She hopes to improve on her Olympic experience. Her long term aims are, “To run faster than I ever have before, make major finals and have a better Olympic finish.”
Sarah is coached by Noelle Morrissey. She does prefer to train in a group and her favourite sessions are 12 hurdle repeats or 3x120m.
She is a fan of Haribo Supermix, pasta and dark chocolate!
Sarah competed in the 2018 Miss Universe Ireland contest and takes interest in fashion. She also enjoys painting, baking, tennis and most sports. Sarah loves to watch Irish people compete on the world stage. Plenty of people enjoy watching her record breaking hurdling exploits.
