Local athletes perform well at Irish Milers Club Greystones Meeting!

Irish Milers Club (IMC) Meeting (Greystones) 2018:

A number of local athletes were in action at the IMC Greystones Meeting, just outside Dublin (Ireland) yesterday – Saturday 5th May 2018.

The well-organised meeting offered races over 800m, 1500m and 5,000m.  There was local representation over all distances.

Jonny Whan (City of Lisburn AC) recorded 4:04.25 in the 1500m ‘B’ race, which was enough for 11th place.  Over the same distance, James Hamilton (Ballymena Runners) ran 4:08.30 (8th place) and Luke Dinsmore (Springwell RC) clocked 4:12.08 (10th place) in ‘C’ race.  There was a win for St Colman’s Newry star Miceal McCaul in the 1500m ‘D’ race, after he broke the beam in 4:10.15 (1st place).

In the 800m event, Ballymena & Antrim AC’s Joshua Courtney narrowly missed a sub-2 minute finish when he crossed the line in 2:00.66 for 6th place in the ‘B’ race.  Willowfield Harriers pair Stephen Wright and Ryan Henry raced in the 800m ‘D’ race, with Stephen claiming 2nd place in 2:02.60 and Ryan 4th place in 2:07.34.

North Down AC’s Rachel Gibson impressed in the 800m ‘A’ race, running 2:12.16 for 4th place.  In the ‘B’ race, City of Lisburn AC’s Zoe Carruthers clocked 2:21.51 for 4th place.

There were six familiar faces in the 5,000m events, with three in the ‘A’ race and three in the ‘B’ race.  Conor Duffy (Glaslough Harriers) was the fastest of the local athletes with a 14:39.82 finish for 6th place in the ‘A’ race.  Scott Rankin (Foyle Valley AC) followed in 14:50.62 (11th place) and Craig McMeechan ran 15:19.66 for 15th place.

In the ‘B’ race, Patrick McNiff (Newcastle AC) recorded 14:57.60 for 3rd place.  John Black (North Belfast Harriers) crossed the line in 15:09.99 for 7th place and Chris Madden (City of Lisburn AC) followed in in 15:13.34 for 8th place.
